MICRODERMABRASION

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a process that removes the outermost layer of skin, typically by the use of a specially designed mechanical device. It is used as an alternative to chemical peels.

The device creates a controlled vacuum that allows for gentle exfoliation, after which the loosened particles are removed from the surface of the skin. It can also remove acne scars and improve skin quality by removing any hardened outer layers of skin cells.

What are the benefits?

It is a type of physical exfoliation therapy in which unnoticeable crystals are used to polish the skin.

It is an alternative to the more common treatments in the dermatology industry, such as chemical peels and laser resurfacing. The benefits include preventing future breakouts, reducing acne scars, boosting collagen production, and softening the skin texture.

How often should you have a treatment?

It is not necessary to go for sessions continuously. It is up to the individual and what they feel like doing. You can continue your sessions as you like or want, but there is no set time frame. To learn more about this treatment, check out our blog here.

Post Care Information

After a microdermabrasion service, it’s essential to follow a proper homecare routine to maximize results and promote skin healing. Here are some general recommendations for homecare after a microdermabrasion treatment.

Gentle Cleansing: Use a mild, non-abrasive cleanser to wash your face. Avoid harsh scrubs or exfoliants for at least a few days to allow the skin to recover.

Hydration is Key: Keep your skin well-hydrated by using a gentle, hydrating moisturizer. Opt for a product that is fragrance-free and specifically formulated for sensitive or post-procedure skin.

Sun Protection: Sun protection is crucial after microdermabrasion. Your skin is more sensitive to UV rays, so apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 before going outdoors. This helps prevent sun damage and ensures the longevity of your results.

Avoid Sun Exposure: Limit your sun exposure, especially during the first few days after the treatment. If possible, stay indoors or wear a wide-brimmed hat when outside.

Skip Harsh Products: Avoid using products containing retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), and benzoyl peroxide for a few days post-treatment. These ingredients can be too harsh on freshly exfoliated skin.

Don’t Pick or Scrub: Refrain from picking at your skin or using abrasive scrubs. Let your skin naturally shed dead cells without interference to avoid irritation and potential scarring.

Cool Compress: If your skin feels irritated or inflamed, you can use a cool compress to soothe the area. Ensure the compress is clean and gentle on the skin.

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Hydration is essential for overall skin health and recovery.
